One of the most iconic sporting events of the years takes place on Saturday as Aintree hosts the Grand National.

The world’s most famous horserace headlines three days of top-class racing at the Liverpool track, with 21 races in all starting on Thursday afternoon.

Fans will be back on course for the meeting for the first time since 2019, while millions more are expected to tune in around the country.

Grand National 2022 start times and dates

The Grand National Meeting gets underway on Thursday, April 7, and runs across three days, culminating on Saturday, April 9.

Each day features seven races, with the first starting at 1:45 pm. On Thursday and Friday, the races are run at intervals of 35 minutes, meaning the last race goes off at 5:15 pm.

On Saturday, however, the timings are slightly different to allow for the long build-up and fall-out from the Grand National.

The Grand National 2022 is the penultimate race of the meeting and starts at 5:15 pm on Saturday, with the final race rounding off the meeting at 6:20 pm.


How to watch the Grand National 2022

On terrestrial TV, ITV1 will show live coverage of five races each day, excluding the first and last races. Coverage starts at 1:45 pm on Thursday and Friday and at 2 pm on Saturday, with the hour-long Opening Show on ITV4 at 9:30 am on each day of the meeting to preview the action.
